Reuben’s Retreat, in the Glossop countryside, is an amazing Charity which provides a sanctuary that is a home-from-home for families coping with the serious illness of a child, providing respite breaks and the chance to build happy memories. Steve Bullows has run tirelessly this year for Reuben’s Retreat and this weekend completed his 9th marathon since January in aid of this fantastic facility. This comes on top of 77 other races. To date that is 9 marathons, 23 half marathons, 23 10k’s and 23 5k’s
The Windmill 10k saw a great turnout from Red Rose Road Runners. Susan Beardsworth ran an impressive new personal best of 74.07 beating her previous best by more than 2 minutes. Our first runners home were John Barker 40.19, Stuart Smith 41.40 and Stuart Smalley 43.13. Samantha Edwards cartwheeled at the end of her race finishing in 47.08 followed immediately by Joel Stanier in 47.12. Lorna Cragg was our third woman home in 58.50 and Helen Patten also beat the hour with a time of 59.15. Our other finishers were Chris Corrigan 45.26,Lee Lawrenson 47.46,Ben Smithers 47.55, Steve Murphy 48.17, Gary Turner 48.40, Brian Hanley 50.57,David Hindle 51.55, Anthony Pope 60.49, Caroline Houston 67.40, Julie Bentham 67.40, Jayne Grzywna 73.39,Stuart Harrison 74.14, Jacqueline Winslow 74.16, Heidi Webber 75.48,Jackie Brunton 81.49.
The new course at the Cuerden Valley parkrun has been welcomed by all the regular participants and is just as challenging as the previous course. It provided inspiration for many our runners and resulted in PB’s for Peter Battersby 21.38, Simon Shaw 21.47, Yvonne Johnson 26.50, Michelle Livesey 30.08 and Sandra Rolston 34.17.
At Preston Nicola Hughes impressed with a time of 21.01, Paul Gardner 26.04, Amanda Berry 29.20, Michaela Toms 36.40 and Julie Carson 47.21 all posted new PB’s.
