Starting January with a half marathon race is an impressive way for runners to show they are ready for a good year. 16 Red Rose Runners turned out for the Central Lancs Half Marathon. Our first runners home finished within sight of each other with Steve Murphy first in 1.44.10 followed immediately by Vicky Ardern in 1.44.32 and Nigel Britton in 1.44.35. New member Phil Berry was next in 1.46.33. Narrowly missing the 2 hour mark , Esther Stanier was next in 2.00.20 and Nikki Berry in 2.00.23. Katy Cleece ran a PB of 2.07.07. The team also included Mike Jeffryes 2.03.39, Louise Withnell 2.09.57, Jo Worswick 2.11.13, Nicola Patterson 2.13.06, Wendy Rogerson 2.13.06, Helen Greenhalgh 2.15.54, Susan Heatley 2.27.44, Richard Field 2.29.24 (Great job as Pacer for 2.30.00), Stuart Harrison 2.55.08.
Marion and Peter O’Grady made their annual visit to Nice for the Prom Classic 10k, a fantastic, friendly event with great views of the sea and mountains. They rate this as their favourite race of the year and every year. Marion managed a course PB and Pete managed to finish!
The Hit the Trail race, near Stockport is a 5 mile course around beautiful Reddish Vale including the lovely Tiviot Way. Austin Trelfa 48.11 and David Watson 55.32 enjoyed their race.
Julie and Tony Thorley took part in the Kielder Dark Skies 10k, enjoying a very atmospheric event. They completed the course in 66 minutes.
Barry Wheeler travelled to Italy and took part in a new parkrun event. The Caffarella parkrun#17 is still in its early stages and Barry’s time of 19.25 saw him as the first finisher.
The parkrun New Year got off to a good start with personal bests at Preston for David Eaves 22.01, Rob Mather 22.12, Sam Edwards 22.40, Alison Mercer 27.27, Carol Rhodes 30.01, and Julie Longdon 34.31.
At Cuerden Valley PB’s were achieved by Scott Jackson 21.45 and Nicola Hughes 22.09. A new parkrun event in Southport saw Red Rose tourists impressed with the friendliness and organisation. Andrew Christie(20.36) Louise Withnell(28.19) Katy Cleece(28.19) and Steven Moon 28.21)
