The big event for Red Rose this weekend was the Hunters 10k with nearly 60 of the club racing. Starting and finishing at the Walton le Dale ‘Park and Ride’ runners needed to keep on the move to warm up for the race. A bitterly cold wind reaching 50 mph was the major challenge on a new course. Matt Holmes was straight out with the lead group and finished in 5th place in 37.47. Karl Hodgson was also up with the leaders with a time of 38.33 in 8th place. John Barker was 18th in 39.59 to make Red Rose the only club with three top 20 finishers. Joe Swarbrick finished in 41.32 to take the V60 prize and Dave Hooton was first V65 in 49.15. Sam Edwards was our first lady home in 48.35 followed immediately by Janette Rayton who was first F40 in 48.41. A good performances from Claire Shaw 51.47, saw her ahead of Paula Plowman who was second F55 in 52.37. Conditions weren’t suitable for PB’s but Wendy Ward celebrated a long awaited PB of 53.23 and Katy Cleece achieved one in 55.54. Stephanie Atkinson made her 10k race debut with a time of 60.14 as did Sandra Davies who finished in 69.32. Full results are on UK Road Races.info facebook page and later, on its website.

Further afield and distinctly warmer, Kathryn Abbott ran in the Gran Canaria Half Marathon finishing in 1.57.44. Apparently another Red Rose vest was spotted but not identified yet! Steve Bullows started his 4 Seasons races in Warrington. He completed the Winter 5 mile trail race in 54.56 and came third in his age group. He will return in Spring!
