The Winter Warmer 10k was held on Sunday 3rd Feb 2019. A small turnout of brave RRRRs for this undulating 10k made all the more pleasant by the well organised race with a carnival atmosphere. The Blackburn club had worked wonders on Saturday and Sunday to clear the route. Jill Jefferson won her Vet. category and prizes were given for teams with 10 runners but we could only manage 9! Gary Corcoran 42.17, Steven Moon 44.21, Jill Jefferson 44.57, Ian Wharton 48.08, John Wiseman 50.31,Tracey Alami 61.15, Lisa Baron 61.58, Anthony Pope 63.11, Sandra Rolston 64.44, Jack Leach 67.35.
A small group took part in the Crosby parkrun also visiting the Anthony Gormley sculptures on the beach. Andrew Christie finished in 20.10 followed by Pauline Moorcroft and Louise Withnell 29.07 and Steven Moon and Katy Cleece 29.09. Martin Finley visited Fort William parkrun in -8 degrees finishing in 30.53.
Lee Quibell came 5th at the Aintree 5k in 19.04. Kirsty Aspinall made her first appearance for Red Rose and finished in a time of 26.10. In the 10k Lisa Hunt achieved a PB of 51.55 and Martin Wells also ran a PB of 73.40. Steve Bullows sacrificed his half marathon race to help an injured runner in the early stages.
The Montane Trail half and full marathons took place in Grizedale Forest. Lynn Melvin had a great run in the ‘Half’ finishing in 2.23.37. Melanie Lowe battled in under 3 hours in 2.58.53 an d Sharon and Andy Birkbeck finished together in 3.01.43. In the marathon race Iain Mitchell was our first runner home in 5.29.09 followed by Scott Jackson in 5.39.46. Chris Hargreaves and Lorna Taylor finished together in 6.11.19.
In Southport the very popular Mad Dog 10k /Crazy Pup event took place with a huge turnout from Red Rose. A brilliant performance from Simon Croft saw him, victoriously winning the race in 33.57, retaining his ‘Mad Dog’ title. Our next five men were John Naylor 41.39,Michael Oddie 43.00, Ian Croft 43.53, Ben Smithers 44.55 and Chris Corrigan 47.08. Our first lady home was Laura Houghton in 46.02 followed by Natalie Moore Sam Edwards 50.58, Natalie Lewis 50.42, Kathryn Abbott 51.39 and Melissa Houghton 52.02. In the Crazy Pup Fun Run we had seven brilliant runners. Daniel Smith 6.45, Holly Smith 6.53, Lucie Clipston 7.17, Ryan Welburn 7.45, Olly Bruce 9.15, Megan Bradley 10.16 and Chloe Smith 14.43.
