Red Rose Buddy Runners
So, our membership survey highlighted a lot of interest from several members who would like to offer their support in some way, shape or form to the club and/or membership.
To miss out on these offers would be remiss, so we have begun to pull together some of the suggestions from some members and have started to form some lovely groups for the club moving forward.
What does this actually mean? Well, as the famous saying goes, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results”, this is why we keep our club fresh and up to the minute. Including members who are new or have been with the club for many years. Everyone has a part to play in their own way, however that may look.
So, three of our members expressed an interest in supporting new runners who may not be super confident. These runners may find it difficult to socialise or get to know folk at a training run. Or they may be worried about pace or distance. Our newly appointed Buddy Runners will be on hand at the Poachers training night to guide and support those runners who may feel a bit nervous, or not very confident trying out a training session for the first time. The Buddy Runners will be available to support you in a way that suits you. So if it’s just to explain the ropes quietly or point out who’s who or what looping back actually means then the Buddy Runners are on hand to help. They will be wearing orange tabards so will be identifiable and are super keen to support anyone who needs it!
So, the three keen volunteers are Ruth Watkinson, Margaret Worbey and Craig Lancaster. One or all of them will be available to be a Buddy from the Poachers each Thursday evening. Look for the orange high viz and you won’t go far wrong. Do you fancy being a Buddy Runner? If so get in touch with Margaret Worbey and she will be able to add you to the group, and get you on board!
What’s next? Like Phoenix from the flames the Junior session is back. A willing group of volunteers have pooled together with a Junior Coach to bring back Junior training sessions for the Rose Buds. If this is something you feel you may want to help with then please get in touch with Ian Wharton and he will add you to the group so you can get involved!
And finally, there have been some super offers which we are keen to progress with an avid Red Rose cyclist and a Sports Scientist specialising in Psychology alongside several others so keep watching the page and website for future blog posts on updates as we work through the results from the survey!
Happy running everyone!
