A brilliant turnout of 337 to run the Worden Park 10k saw 60 club members flying the flag and more importantly, many,many more marshalling and organising a fabulous event. The Leyland bus medals went down a storm with the runners and the encouragement out on the course was gratefully received. Matt Holmes was the first club member home in 36.35 in 3rd place. Simon Shaw was our second runner home in 42.02 and Chris Bibby 3rd in 42.43, making them Men’s team prize winners. Janine Needham lead the women’s team home in 44.16, Sam Edwards was made up with 44.42 and Gina Biggs ran well for 51.50 completing the winning Ladies team.

The Manchester Half Marathon preceded the 10k on Sunday. Sam Hodgson finished in 1.36.53 followed by Joydip Majumder 2.15.55, Sharon Birkbeck 2.18.12, Ian Richards 2.24.15.

In the 10k race Mark Willett running for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, ran 41.01, James England 54.43, Richard Hunter 60.53,Natalie Smith 62.34, Jules Longdon 71.10,Jack Leach 71.40, Samantha Spencer 73.34.

The Southport Triathlon took place on Sunday. The Standard Distance is 1500m swim / 40k cycle / 10k run. The cycle course takes place on closed roads and the run course is based around the Marine Lake on tarmac paths. Mike Hall competed well with times of 28.58 for the swim, 1.08.24 for the bike and 41.48 for the run, David Tolson, 32.48 (swim) 74.16 (bike) 48.34 (run) Ryan Beardsworth 38.02 (swim) 80.35 (bike) 47.57 (run).

The Keswick Mountain Festival staged a 25k trail race on Saturday with Sarah Chippendale finishing in 2.48.55, John Wiggans 3.09.30 and Simon Morris 3.54.03. In the 10k race, Olivia Wiggans took the 3rd female prize in 54.21. Also competing were Margaret Lupton 1.07.40 and Rik Chippendale 1.11.39 In the short Duathlon Dave Raynor and Lynne Kenyon took part in a run bike run event finishing in 1.25.15 and 1.35.21. The swim was cancelled because of blue algae. There was also a 5k trail race with David Raynor finishing in 25.48 and Becky Platt 40.35.

The Bentham Marathon is a single lap marathon held on undulating country roads with stunning views of the Forest of Bowland, Stocks Reservoir and the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. John Nuttall, running his 76th marathon finished in 4.00.27. Craig Lancaster who is fairly new to marathon running, finished in 6.33.34 and proceeded to take part in the Asics,Windermere marathon the day after. His time was even better finishing in 6.06.40.Also taking part in Windermere were Glynis Leo who finished in 4.34.25 and Helen Greenhalgh (5.20.48)

The Pilling 10k is a popular Saturday race. This year Carol Douglass took the F70 prize in 51.33 and Paula Stell ran 52.45.

At Preston parkrun, personal bests were posted by Chris Pope 22.05, Andre Jenkins 27.49, Hannah Bateman 28.06, Christine Walker 31.41.

At Cuerden Valley 9 Red Rose runners gained PB’s at the weekend. David Parkinson 19.34, Stuart Smith 20.45, Michael Oddie 21.51, Stephen Robertson 22.33, Phil Butler 22.51, Simon Worbey 25.19, Melissa Houghton 26.11, Neil Healy 27.55, Joydip Majumder 30.04.

Liam Hooton and David Hooton were first in their age categories at St Helens and Harrogate as was Philip Davidson at Kew Woods.

Lexie Colquhoun took part in her first triathlon at St Annes this weekend and is keen to try another one.

Emily Ingham , participating as Preston Tri. took part in the Outlaw Triathlon in Nottingham. She performed brilliantly with her swim of 1.2 miles in 46.37, bike 56 miles in 3.26.15 and ran 13.1 miles in 2.07.26.
