The fourth Red Rose Championship race was the Wesham 10k held last Wednesday evening from the BNFL site, in Lea. This was an excellently hosted race by Wesham Road Runners with close on 400 runners. Red Rose were well represented with over 90 runners.

So many of our club achieved personal best’s it would be unfair to single anyone out but a glance at our facebook page indicates 23 ran new pb’s with several also running season’s best. The stand out performance of the evening was definitely Carla Davies finishing 10th overall and first female in a fantastic time of 35.26. Full Red Rose results at the end of this report.

On Saturday the first Catforth 5k of the season was held. Those competing for Red Rose were Chris Charnley 20.19, Andrew Stell 21.43, David Hindle 25.05, Pauls Stell 26.51, Tracey Alami 28.52, Carol Heaton 29.05, Mary Conway 29.21.

In the Lancaster race, The Hangman’s Noose 10k, Vicky Arden was a prize winner as third lady in a time of 45.06 with Stuart Smith finishing in good time of 41.39.

The Liverpool Rock’n’Roll event attracted a good number of the Red Rose family. Chris Corrigan ran a 5k PB of 20.55 on Saturday as did Ramona Mulligan in 43.46. In the Marathon, windy conditions made the 26.2 miles even harder for the runners. Well done, Nigel Britton who finished in 3.45.34, Glynis Leo 4.12.45 and Daniel Gregson 4.20.10.

Sharon Birkbeck ran the Liverpool Marathon in aid of Jacob. She said she wanted a challenge and the last 3 miles down the waterfront into the wind was a real test. Fortunately, with the worthwhile cause in mind along with Wendy and Karl there to encourage her she crossed the line in 5.35.48.

In the Half Marathon there was more success. Michael Oddie 1.32.05, Ian Croft 1.37.10, Lisa Bolton 1.46.55, Lee Lawrenson 1.46.55, Steve Murphy 1.47.29, Alicia Croft 1.54.57, David Stewart 2.02.41, Laura Renke 2.03.57, Joydip Majumder 2.19.59, Angela Dallinger 2.20.32, Julie Wills 2.40.00, Ramona Mulligan 3.33.48.

Nikki Berry did the Buxton Half. It turned out to be the toughest, wettest and hilliest half marathon but she cracked it in 2.25.30.

The Edinburgh Marathon is notorious for making a flattish course into a battle with the elements. This year wind and rain provided the added challenge. Manolo Mendozo ran a very respectable 3.30.26(wearing a kilt) in aid of Preston Youth for Christ charity. Ann Cleave ran a brilliant 3.59.57.Ben Smithers finished in 4.00.26 followed by Gina Biggs in a new PB time of 4.13.44. Jessica Campbell completed the race in 4.47.34 and Sam Spencer finished in 6.21.26.

At the Blackpool 10 mile race Kelly White ran a great time of 1.37.10 with friends Lauren Hatton 1.56.27, Emily Atkinson 1.59.00, Susan Beardsworth 2.01.45(PB) and Steve Bullows 2.13.26.

Cuerden Valley parkrun saw Matt Holmes with the fastest time of the day, 18.43 and Neil Healy gaining a new PB of 27.37. At Preston, Liam Hooton’s week ended well with a new PB of 20.05 along with Andrew Doublett 22.26, Hannah Bateman 27.57, Julie Doublett 28.13, Christine Walker 31.32.
