The turnout of over 120 runners for Red Rose at the latest Inter Club race hosted by Preston Harriers contributed to an excellent set of team results. The Overall team position was 4th as was the Ladies only team. The Vet categories told a different story. The Ladies only, V40 team were third. A clean sweep of the V40, V50 and V60 team positions saw Red Rose victorious in all three categories.
Our first three male finishers were Simon Croft, Matt Holmes and Jon Laney. The women were led by Sophie Pilkington, Sam Edwards and Vicky Ardern. (Results on Inter club series facebook page)
The Freckleton Half marathon is long standing fixture in the North West often run in testing hot conditions. This year it was not quite as hot as other years but still very warm and energy sapping. Our two lead runners produced excellent performances. Richard Maughan finished in 1.25.12 to be 3rd V40 and Mike Hall was 2nd V50 in 1.27.54. Our third runner was Michael Oddie in 1.31.20. Sophie Pilkington had a great race finishing 10th lady in 1.40.46, Samantha Edwards was our next woman home in 1.49.08 followed by Anneke Crosby in 1.58.45 to be 3rd F50, she was accompanied by Judi Ingham in the same time. Our only runner in the Sinnerdin Half in Lerwick was Davina Bowling who took the F70 prize in 2.09.18 having also run the Bressey Parkrun in 28.52.
Jill Jefferson won the F60 prize and 3rd female in the Father’s Day 10k in a time of 44.47. Rachel Cook finished in 62.25 and Lorna Cragg ran 65.58.
Four ladies, Lauren Hatton, Susan Beardsworth, Kelly Hobson and Cath Furesz took part in the Blackpool Music Run 10k.
The Flash in the Park 10k is multi-terrain running race taking place within the boundaries of Pennington Flash Country Park. Our two runners times were Austin Trelfa 56.04 and David Watson 73.49.
In Parkrun News, Red Rose were represented at 23 events mostly in this country but Judy Ingham managed to run 27.15 in Milan. Gina Biggs travelled with Ben Smithers to complete his 200th event at the home of parkrun, Bushy Park and 12 RR took the trip to Southport for the Kew Woods event. Katy Cleece, Louise Withnell and Pauline Moorcroft visited the Pendle event. At Cuerden Valley PB’s were achieved by David Park 22.45 and Neil Healy 27.04. At Preston Stephen Robertson ran a new PB of 21.22, Steven Gibson 22.21 and Andrew Ashcroft 29.17. At Preston Junior parkrun Red Rose were represented by Daniel Hands 11.55 and Jorja Lily Kay 24.38.
Simon Croft won the Pilling 10k in a time of 34.01. Laura Johnson finished in 49.50 and Natalie Croft ran 50.40.
The Lakeland Five Passes Ultra is 32 miles of self navigating, including 10,000 feet of vertical elevation with no rest as it ascends peak after peak &pass after pass. It has a cut off time of 14 hours. Our brave and brilliant participants beat the cut off times by several hours. Taking part in this mammoth course were Dan Hughes, Nicola Hughes, Andy Birkbeck, Andy H. Mark McCrea, Pete Battersby who finished in about 9 hours 15 minutes and Ian Mitchell who finished in a time of 9hours 40 minutes. All unbelievable times.
