Dave Tolson travelled to Weert in the Netherlands to take part in the European Triathlon Championship. Representing GB he completed the Olympic distance of 1500 swim, 40k bike and 10k run finishing in 2.38.33.

Starting and finishing at Coniston Hall Landing Point, on the shores of Coniston Water the Lakeland Trails Marathon takes in a complete circuit of Coniston Water along well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways. Taking in the idyllic beauty spot of Tarn Hows, and the elevated Beacon Tarn, the whole course gives panoramic views of Lake Coniston and the surrounding peaks of the Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags. Whatever the distance, the Red Rose gang had a fantastic day running and supporting each other.

In the marathon race, Greg Atkinson was our first runner in 4.26.53. Scott Jackson covered the distance in 4.37.22 with Nicola and Dan Hughes running together in a time of 4.50.53. In the Challenge marathon David Bayliss ran 4.59.25. Others covering the longer distance were Richard Ward 5.01.25, Martin Simpson 5.28.51, Wendy Ward(PB), 5.50.26, Lynne Melvin 5.51.38, Austin Trelfa 6.38.18, Josephine Walsh 7.15.00, Gina Biggs 7.16.35. There was also a half marathon event. Ciarron Roddy finished 10th in 1.32.09 and Roger Harrison finished in 1.59.04. A large group competed in the challenge event. Chris Corrigan came 12th in 1.49.40 and Dave Raynor finished in 2.07.44. Ben Smithers and Sam Edwards continued their friendly battle for supremacy with Ben coming in 4 seconds ahead in a time of 2.12.30. Many of our runners were able to compete in pairs. Kathryn Abbott ran well in 2.16.58 with Margaret Lupton next in 2.22.43. Angela Dillinger and David Watson ran 2.33.55. Chris Hall and Hannah Clayton just broke 3 hours in 2.59.56, Katie Connolly and Fiona Gutteridge ran 3.05.43. Tracy Woods finished in 3.26.04 and Janette Covell crossed the line in 3.43.34.

In the 10k race, Lisa Bolton was our leading runner finishing in 22nd place in 1.12.17. John Wiseman was next in 1.22.37. Ruth Watkinson and Joanne Dobson ran well together in 2.13.07.

Earlier in the week, a few of our runners went to the Bowley Fell trail Race organised by Trawden AC. Our lead runner was Michael Oddie finishing in great time of 51.32 followed by Austin Trelfa 70.33, Karen Smith 73.44, Stuart Smith 73.45, David Watson 92.25.

Steve Bullows took part in his 25th marathon. The Betteshanger Country Park Marathon was a mind numbing 13 lap run starting at 5.00pm. Success was completing the course.

At Cuerden Valley, Red Rose continue to be the reason for its success with at least 12 volunteers and 23 runners. Scott Jackson 21.34 and Emma Moon 34.39 achieved PB’s.

Personal bests at Preston were gained by Liam Hooton 19.40, Chris Corrigan 21.20, Phil Butler 21.50, Carol Rhodes 29.49, Ian Knell 32.29, Kathryn Morgan 37.46.

Young Jess Brunton proudly wore her Red Rose vest and gained a pb at Fleetwood parkrun.

Dan Hands did his first junior parkrun in under 12 minutes Mo Farah needs to watch out!

The Red Rose parkrun tourists visited Morecambe. 17 runners had a great excursion with at least three gaining PB’s. Davina Bowling 27.08, Jo Roberts 27.53 and Ruth Watkinson 29.15.

The Morecambe 10k on Sunday was completed by Steven Gibson in 46.41.

Mike Hall did the EpicMan middle distance triathlon from Lakeside, Windermere in a time of 5:45 with a lumpy 90k bike ride (3.07.20) and a tricky21km trail run(1.49.11) Fortunately the swim of 1.9k was fairly flat (38.58).

Jenny Fairclough had fantastic day doing the Aberdeen Kiltwalk with her good Aberdeen friend, Eddy…16 scenic miles in Royal Deeside. They made donations to Charlie House but there were many other local charities being supported. It was a great event with well stocked food stations and amazing volunteers supporting the walkers.
