The Penwortham By -pass Running Festival was a great success with a massive turn out form Red Rose. Sophie Pilkington had a great run in the 5k taking 13th place and 1st lady in a time of 20.25. John Wiseman was 2nd M55 in 22.20. Neil Houghton took the V65 prize in 24.13. The 10K route consisted of 5 laps of 2k with a field of 370 runners. First home for us was Karl Hodgson in 37.49 in 10th place overall. Liam Hooton was 18thin 40.51. A close finish followed with with Joe Swarbrick (1st V60) 41.18, Alan Jolly 41.21 and Paul Mounsey 41.28. Sam Hodgson finished in 42.09, Phil Davidson 42.29 (2nd V55) John Allen 42.53 (3rd V55) and Chris Bridge 43.07. Michael Turner raced in his new RED wheelchair with a new best time of 46.38. Some excellent performances from our ladies team saw Paula Stell finishing in 51.55 followed by Sian King 51.55, Alicia Grimshaw 53.51,Sam Edwards 54.24, Kathryn Abbott 54.32 (2nd F50), Lesley Nixon 54.32 (3rd F50) Zoe Cain 55.30, Nicola Millington 55.38, Louise Withnell 56.19,Davina Bowling 58.12 (1st F70).
A massive untimed fun run took place. A few of our young rosebuds took part including Eliza Smith, Abigail Cleece, Jack Cleece, Lissy Lawrenson, Emmie Lawrenson and Jorja Lily Kay.
Many of the runners from Sunday’s races took part in the latest Inter Club race hosted by Wesham Road Runners. In equally warm conditions we had two men in the top ten. Simon Croft 5th in 24.38 and Matt Holmes 7thin 25.07. The rest of team of 10 saw Dave Parkinson take 2nd V50 in 27.12,Gary Corcoran with a great run of 28.49, ‘Ironman’Mike Hall 29.20, Barry Wheeler 29.28, Paul Mounsey 29.30, Frank Nightingale 29.48, Simon Shaw 29.51 and Michael Oddie 30.04. The ladies team were led by Sophie Pilkington in 32.00, Sam Edwards 33.05, Vicky Ardern 33.58, Janette Rayton 35.09, and Natalie Moore 35.39. The Men’s V50 team made up of D. Parkinson, M.Hall, F. Nightingale, S. Shaw finished in 2nd place with all our other teams finishing in 4th place. Several notable personal achievements came from David Hindle who improved his time by 2 and a half minutes, Ruth Watkinson by nearly 8 minutes and Gina Biggs by over 15 minutes! At the Windmill Half Marathon Vicky Ardern had a great race with a brilliant time of 1.40.59 to take the 3rd female prize. Ian Croft finished in 1.39.46 followed by David Eaves 1.44.23, Richard Field 1.51.04, Alicia Croft 1.56.49, Helen Greenhalgh 2.12.36,Craig Lancaster 2.23.05.
Pendle Running Festival Trail Race Sunday 21st July 2019. Only 5 RRRRs ran this testing 5 mile trail race from Barley up Pendle Hill. Sarah Chippendale was 3rd lady in 43.44 and Jill Jefferson 4th lady and 1st F60 in 44.43. Rik Chippendale 55.34, Wendy Ward 67.17 and Tracey Alami 67.18.
