On Friday evening Chris Corrigan and Helen Ormerod completed the inaugural Bolton Ironman 5K Night Run with Chris finishing in approximately 20:39 – the results have not been published online as yet.
On Sunday, Michael Oddie finished the Wirral Way Trail Half Marathon in 12th place and first Vet-45 in a fantastic time of 90:58. Stuart Smith finished 21st with a time of 95:13. This is a beautiful point to point 13.1 mile trail run along the Wirral Way old railway line, finishing at Wirral Country Park with stunning views across the Dee Estuary.
Mike Patten completed the Snowdon trail marathon in 5 hours 39 minutes.
Jenny Fairclough & Emily Atkinson crossed into White Rose territory to participate in the inaugural Ilkley Half Marathon. The undulating route meandered through local villages and along some scenic country lanes, finishing in the event village in Ilkley. The organisation of the event was superb, with great support from all the volunteers and local community and proceeds going to a number of local charities. Jenny finished in 2:31:08 and Emily in 2:33:14.
Elsewhere, Mike Hall completed what for most people is an impossible challenge – a full Ironman. This included a 1:17:26 swim, 07:24:19 bike section and 04:29:55 marathon. The overall time of 13:30:23 included 8 and 9 minute transitions. Here is some of what he had to say:
Well I managed to complete Ironman UK at Bolton yesterday in 13:30 so some way off my target of 12 hours, but was pleased just to finish with the way things went. The swim went ok, just a few twinges of cramp that I’d been worried about beforehand (and had to stop to put back on the swim cap that came off at the start of lap 2).
I felt terrible for for the majority of the bike section for some reason, feeling ’empty’ and had stomach pains, so progress was affected. Struggled to eat too and wasn’t sure I would be able to complete the ride, let alone the run, but somehow got through it.
Similarly feeling bad on the run, after 2 laps my stomach decided it was too full of fluids and emptied itself in two close episodes after a feed stop. I felt much better after that, although I did get a lot of hamstring cramp so a fair bit of run/walk was needed.
In Keswick, Ken Addison completed a 100 mile cycle time trial in an amazing 4 hours 28 minutes. The event include the national veterans championships. He says he wouldn’t fancy adding a swim and a marathon to that. We don’t blame you Ken!
At Avenham Park junior parkun on Sunday, Daniel Hands finished the 2k course in 11:08 for 18th place, achieving a PB of approximately 45 seconds!
The Garstang 3k fun run saw Ryan Welburn and James Harrison run at a little over 4 minute kilometre pace to finish in times of 12:35 and 12.43 respectively, they came second and third 🥈🥉😊.
At the Garstang Ice Cream 10k, there were a fair showing of Red Rosers, with the men winning the team prize. The Results are below:
