An octet of Red Rosers ventured out in the extremely inclement conditions of Sunday morning to compete in the Mawdesley 10k race. With 30% of the course on tarmac lanes and the rest on farm tracks and across fields, the excess of rain created a very muddy challenge with plenty of chances for puddle jumping! Ann Cleave and Sue Tonge scooped the women’s V50 and V60 categories in 54.49 and 1:00:00 respectively. Simon Worbey led the Red Rose team home in a great time of 53.29, followed by Margaret Worbey (57.49), John Wiseman (55.47), Helen Ormerod Pateman (1:00:02), Steve Bellamy (1:03:47) and Jenny Fairclough (1:16:02). This is a great local race with excellent support from the marshals, and it concluded with free coffee and cake back at the base in the Red Lion pub.
