The Astley Park Festive 4 run on Sunday, was supported by a jolly contingent of Red Rose Road Runners. Taking place within the paths and trails of Astley Park, the event is organised by Chorley Athletic and Triathlon club in conjunction with Epic Events and all of the money raised will be donated to Chorley Food Bank who are in desperate need of funds. Over £2000 has been raised for the Chorley food bank from the event. It makes it all worthwhile. Matthew Holmes had a hard fought 2nd finish place in 26:05, only 4 seconds behind the 1st finisher. The other Red Rose results were Alan Jolly 30:29, Barry Wheeler 31.01 –pushing Ruby in the buggy, David Raynor 35:57, Ann Cleave 37:45, Debbie Porter 41:44,Joydip Majumder 42.00, Sue Austin 42:22, Julie Thorley 42:22, Sandra Rolston 45:23, Richard Field 45:58, Lorna Taylor 45:58, Jenny Fairclough 51:57 and Arthur Green 1:01:45. There was great Red Rose support on the sidelines from Lynn Melvin, Maureen Laney and Sue Tonge.
At the Ribble Valley 10k runners faced stiff opposition from athletes from all over the country in a highly competitive field. Red Rose chip times were: Gary Corcoran 39.06, Sophie Pilkington 41.10, Stephen Woodruffe 40.56, Matt Wilson 42.34, Eddie Hamilton 49.15, Mark Wardley 50.07, Gail Bristo 50.45, Keith Burrows 56.28, Emily Atkinson 63.01.
