‘Storm Dennis’ Weekend Race Report
Saturday saw the start of ‘Storm Dennis’ and increasingly nasty weather conditions. The morning’s parkrunners escaped the worst of it, however the same could not be said for the small band of brave souls who ventured up the A6 to the Bleasdale Circle fell race – the first race on the Red Rose Fell Championship 2020 calendar. Due to the inclement conditions, the course was shorten to 4 miles, from the original 5 mile circular route. The shortened route comprised a simple out and back to ‘Paddy’s Pole’, although all agreed this was the right decision on the part of the organisers. The race was still challenging with the wind, rain and bitterly cold conditions. Of the 59 race participants, the Red Rose completers are listed below:

Elsewhere, at the Dunsop Bridge Trail 12K was held – “An isolated, unspoilt wonderland with stunningly epic scenery as far as the eye can see. The 12km course runs through farmland, open trails, tracks and the stunning pines of Whitmore woods”.
Sophie Pilkington finished in 01:11:58 to win 1st Lady. Close on her heels and 3rd lady finisher was Sarah Chippendale with 01:13:50. The remaining Red Rose finisher were:

Sunday saw increasing windy conditions and ‘half marathon day’ for some.
In Cheshire, John Wiseman, Mary Conway and Davina Bowling braved the elements and competed in the Stockport Trail Half Marathon with times of 2:11:01, 2:25:41 and 2:44:57.
Blackpool saw another running of the Great North West Half Marathon. Usually a boring affair, Storm Dennis had other ideas and saw runners facing 50MPH headwinds. Considering the difficult conditions, 16 Red Rose Road Runners completed, with some very respectable times.

At Oulton Park, in a small field of competitors, a group of Red Rose Road Runners completed the 3.5 hour running challenge. Steven Moon completed 10 laps within the allotted time, was 12th placed runner and 3rd male Vet40. Pauline Moorcroft was 15th placed, 3rd lady and 1st female Vet60 with 9 laps completed. Zoe Cain (8 Laps), Louise Withnell (9 Laps) and Sian King (9 Laps) also completed the challenge.
Elsewhere, Sunday also saw the running of the Heversham Hobble. Red Rose runners including Julie Thorley and Greg Atkinson competed. Unfortunately results could not be found at the time of writing.
Sunday also saw the long awaited Inaugural Worden Park Junior parkrun. Setup by a Red Rose support core team, it was well attended by Red Rose junior runners:
Jacob Sloan also ran and finished in position 27 with a time of 15:02.
Preston junior parkrun and the senior one, were not running this weekend.
