Junior Runner of the Year 2019

Junior Runner of the Year 2019

Please find below the nominations for Junior Runner of the Year 2019. Voting is open to junior members only (or their parents/guardians on their behalf).

As we have, in some cases, multiple juniors registered with the same email address, please specify the name of the junior that is voting and the person they are voting for along with the registered email address.

Voting will remain open until 12 March at midday. Votes received after that time will not count.

The winner will be announced at the Presentation Evening on 13th March at Bamber Bridge Football Club (from 19:30), along with the other junior prize winners. The trophy itself will be presented at the Junior Sports Day (details for this will be published separately).

The voting form is at the bottom of this page. Please take the time to read all of the nominations, even if you already know who you want to vote for – we have some very worthy and deserving nominees.

Jessica Brunton:
I’d like to nominate Jessica Brunton. Jess can be seen at Parkrun cheering the adults on.  Cheering loudly and always smiling. She is always encouraging to everyone. Every time I have a big race, Jess has made me a good luck charm or picture to remind me to stay focused and keep smiling. She’s thoughtful and very kind. Jess encapsulates everything that the running community stands for. She’s amazing ❤️
Holly Smith:
Despite graduating from Pete & Marion’s C25K course late in 2017, 2019 was the first year Holly has committed to running regularly and has subsequently become a familiar face at the club’s Monday Intervals session and the Thursday 6 mile group run. During the year, she competed in every race on the junior championship calendar, regular Parkruns (visiting 17 different courses) as well as a number of other races up and down the country representing the club with pride and taking age group victories at the Paras 2 (Catterick), Race the Train 5 Mile Challenge (Tywyn) and the Catforth 5k. After turning 15 in October, Holly then ran the Windmill 10k as one of the event’s youngest entrants. As well as her own running achievements, Holly also helps others to achieve theirs, volunteering on numerous occasions at Cuerden Valley Parkrun and the Junior Parkruns at Preston and Worden Park.
Daniel Smith:
So junior nomination goes to Dan Smith.. I have seen the effort he has put in over the last 12 months at intervals as well as parkruns, really determined and always has a smile on his face. He has completed an impressive 86 parkruns and has also volunteered a number of times too.
Bertie Burrows:
I’d like to nominate Bertie Burrows because he has been inspired by his Grandad (Pete O’Grady) to take up running and is working really hard on his pace. He is learning to run at a consistent speed rather than sprint then tire himself out!
Bertie listens well at training, he’s really good and he’s a fast runner too.
Daniel Johnson:
I’d like to nominate Daniel Johnson. Not only has he overcome extreme anxiety by joining the club and attending each week, he took part in his first fun run at Christmas. This was a very difficult and nerve wrecking thing for him to do and he absolutely smashed it. He is very proud of his medal. He also did a run to help raise money for Derian house on New Years Eve. He is going from strength to strength and is looking forward to taking part in the upcoming Worden Park junior parkruns.
He is a “good sport”.
Lucie Clipston:
I’d like to nominate Lucie Clipston for this award. Lucie is an excellent runner, winning the championship for the last 3 years whilst also battling asthma. She is a dedicated Red Rose runner who not only runs but is a great supporter of others, including other juniors during parkruns.
Abbie Parker:
For committing to the training sessions, trying hard and setting a good example to the younger children, as well as being nice to them.
Jenna Haslam:
Nominated because at training she always tries so hard and is a very nice girl. She listens well to the coaches and is polite and respectful to everyone she encounters.
Jenna’s approach to classes can not be faulted. She behaves impeccably and always listens and tries her absolute best.
Alfie Shaw:
I would like to nominate Alfie Shaw for Juniors Runners Runner. Alfie started running only last year in 2019 after wanting to raise money for Cancer Research following his dad’s battle with Cancer.  He then joined Red Rose Buds which has helped him become a more confident little boy with his running and even managed to complete 5k at Cuerden Parkrun.  When starting at Red Rose buds he was a very shy boy struggling to interact with the others, now he enjoys getting involved with all activites and is keen to develop his running skills.
Ava Wood:
Ava always wants to help other people and she’s a good runner too. She always has a smile on her face.
Ava is always happy to volunteer and demonstrate at training, and her behaviour is really positive.
Abigail Cleece:
Abigail has completed 25 5k parkruns, 17 junior parkruns, and volunteered 32 times! She has also taken part in lots of fun runs, and tries to approach her running as a fun way to get outside and keep active. She supports other runners at training, parkruns and races and is always happy to run with others including her brother. She listens well and tries hard to do her best, with a good attitude to others.
Jack Cleece:
Jack is one of the younger rosebuds and his focus is to have fun rather than speed. He turns up every week to training and tries hard to listen and practice the skills which are improving all the time. He’s kind to the other children too. His commitment to taking part has earned him first place in the U10 championship, despite not being the fastest his dedication paid off.
Joe Atkinson:
Joe is the youngest rosebud but he is certainly not the slowest! A regular at junior parkrun and at training has shown he is a really good runner. He always has a smile on his face and is happy to cheer others on and run with his friends too.
Eva Atkinson:
Eva’s behaviour is always excellent and she is a lovely girl to other runners and the coaches at training. She usually has a smile when taking part in training, races or  parkruns and she is a great team member.
Oliver Bruce:
Oliver is a great runner, and he demonstrates his ability at local races and cross country as well as parkruns. He’s also a kind boy who volunteers his time at parkruns to support others, and patiently teaches others the volunteer roles to support their learning.
Jacob Sloan:
The happiest junior runner! I don’t think I’ve ever seen Jacob without a huge smile on his face. He tries hard at running and training and is a pleasure to be around.
Lucas Park:
Lucas regularly runs at 5k and junior parkrun and volunteers to support others there too. He’s a great runner, and has a brilliant attitude to training  and running.
