The main event for Red Rose this weekend was the 32nd Roddlesworth Roller, a well established 9k undulating and scenic multi-terrain race around Abbey Village. Our first runner home in 9th place was Simon Croft in 34.58. Stuart Smith had a great run finishing in 39.43 well clear of a chasing pack of Barry Wheeler (40.30), Manolo Mendoza (40.38), Steve Woodruffe( 40.49), 2nd M55,and Michael Oddie (40.51). Janine Needham showed her quality, finishing 6th lady, and first in her age category, in 42.29 with Sam Edwards 43.56, Jay Rayton 48.26,(3rd F40),Anneke Crosby 49.37, Vicky Van Den Biggelaar 50.53, Melissa Houghton 52.27,Alison Parkinson 52.31, Margaret Worbey 52.47. James Robinson ran 60.54 to be 2nd M70 and Davina Bowling finished in 64.04 for the F70 prize. Full results on UKResults.net.
The Juniors were out in force for the 2.2k Daffodil Doddle, also held in Abbey Village. The finishing results were, Daniel Smith 10.00, Lucie Clipston 10.03, Holly Smith 11.10, Daniel Johnson 11.34, Oliver Bruce 12.05, Lucas Park 12.52 (1st M6) Abigail Cleece 13.38, Ava Wood 14.40, Jacob Szedler Sloan 14.45, Jennifer Szedler 14.46, Eva Atkinson 15.32, Joseph Atkinson 16.56 (1st M4), Jack Cleece 17.50,Finley Wood 20.00.
Sarah Chippendale took 3rd placed lady at the Howler Jackals half marathon and Rik Chippendale survived a fitness test on the 10k event.
John Naylor ran the Arncliffe Half marathon along with Craig Lancaster. Set in the Yorkshire Dales and the home of the original Emmerdale Farm, it was windy and wet on an undulating out and back course. The second half was better and John finished with a negative split second half, 5th place overall, with a time of 1.31.45. Craig achieved a significant PB with a time of 2.11.47.
Julie Longdon ran the Chester 10k in a time of 1.10.17. Chris and Karen Clark tackled the Haweswater Half Marathon finishing in 2.43.50.
Philip Davidson joined the parkrun 250 club on Saturday on the 4 lap winter course at Fell Foot parkrun, Newby Bridge. Philip celebrated this milestone with fellow Red Rose Road Runners Liam Hooton (25:20), David Hooton (27:04) and Andrew Christie (21:07). He naturally celebrated the event, on International Women’s Day, with cake, tray bake and a course pb of 23:35 dressed as his celebrated Gingerbread Man and a cape manufactured by Liam. The cape listed his parkrun achievements which may or may not have included the full NW Region of 69 parkruns; this is of course if you include the Black Combe prison parkrun at Haverigg!
Oliver Bruce was the only Red Roser to run a PB at Cuerden Valley. His time was 34.23.Young Jack Cleece ran a PB of 49.38 at Preston parkrun. Abigail Cleece also completed the course.
Natalie Croft ran her 50th parkrun and PB’s were achieved by Anneke Crosby (22.18), Joel Stanier (23.20) Neil Healy (24.18) Craig Lancaster (26.53).Mary Conway ran the Fort William parkrun.
